Distemper & Antiquing Liquid Product Description.

Discover the tactile beauty of heritage with Earthcote Distemper, crafted from an ancient formulation of chalk, pigments, and a natural binder. The result? A beautifully flat, chalky appearance that is velvety to the touch, perfect for creating timeless interiors with character.

Complementing this, Earthcote Antiquing Liquid is a rich, oil-based finishing coat designed to overlay the Distemper. It transforms the surface with a washable, deep-lustred sheen, enhancing visual depth and durability.

Colour Range:

Choose from a curated palette of standard Earthcote colours.
Distemper colours can be tinted using Zero VOC, Glycol-Free, APEO-Free, NPEO-Free, and Formaldehyde-Free stainers, eco-safe and non-polluting.

Packaging:
Earthcote Distemper : 5 Litre.
Earthcote Antiquing Liquid: 1 Litre.

Recommended for:
Interior walls and ceilings.
Furniture and cabinetry.
Fired ceramics.
Unpainted or painted plaster and timber surfaces.

Not Recommended for:
Floors.
Glazed surfaces.

Application Techniques.

Textured, Rustic Look: Apply with a 150mm Paintsmiths Fibreglass Brush using crisscross or random strokes.
Smooth, Sophisticated Finish: Use a 225mm Paintsmiths Polypile Roller with consistent vertical strokes.
Consistency in technique is key to a flawless finish.

Tips for Antiquing Liquid Application:

Shake the tin before every pour.
Apply lightly and work from edge to natural break-points to avoid lap marks.
Step back regularly to assess evenness and feather off inconsistencies with a dry brush.

Spread Rates (approximate).

• DTE Matt Primer: ± 7m²/l.
• Distemper: ± 6m²/l
• Antiquing Liquid: ± 12m²/l

Drying & Overcoating Times.

• Primer: 4 hrs.
• Distemper: > 6 hrs between coats.
• Antiquing Liquid: > 16 hrs.

Do not exceed 48 hours between coats without thoroughly cleaning the surface.

Solvents & Cleanup.

• Primer & Distemper: Water cleanup.
• Antiquing Liquid: Mineral Turpentine.

Important Notes.

• Surfaces must be dry (moisture <10%), with ambient temps between 10–35°C and humidity between 10–85%.
• Product may yellow over time, especially in dark or covered areas.
• Expect subtle colour variations between batches, order enough to finish the job in one go.
• Avoid touch-ups; always redo entire panels for consistency.
